Zhuangyuan Bridge in Guiyang Town, Qidong County, is a five-arch stone bridge, 80 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 9 meters high, spanning the confluence of the Bai River and Xiangjiang River. It has stone railings and pavilions. Legend says when the bridge was completed, a new zhuangyuan (top scholar) passed by. The engineer tested him with a couplet before allowing passage. The stonemason said: 'The bridge is just completed, from now on passage requires poetry and couplets, with feelings and actions. Zhuang...'

祁东县状元桥在祁东县归阳镇，有一座五孔石拱桥，全长80米，宽8米，高9米，横跨白河入湘江之汇合口。桥面上有石栏、桥亭。相传，石桥建成时刚好有一位新科状元从这里路过，当时，桥两端人山人海，建桥工程师有意考考这个状元公，要他对上了对子才能通行，石匠道：“大桥刚合，从此通行，必吟诗作对，有所感，有所为。状元公有何想法？”状元公沉吟了一会，欣然对曰：“小生新中，尔后为官，当效国惠民，不图名，不图利。众父老不必担心。”在场人听后，一致称妙，于是，当即将这座桥命名为“状元桥”。
