Guanxiang Island is located on the west side of the main channel of the Xiangjiang River, 5 km from the county seat, covering over 200 mu. The island is lush with trees, many over a century old, cool in summer and warm in winter. It was originally a base for high-quality citrus and other crops and has been developed into a resort for tourism, entertainment, swimming, fishing, and summer retreats. It once had Wenfeng Pagoda and Wenfeng Academy. Climbing the pagoda offers panoramic views of the Xiangjiang River.

观湘洲位于域北湘江主航道西侧，距县城5公里，总面积为二百余亩，洲上树木繁茂，百年以上的大树随处可见，冬暖夏凉，原为县原种场优质柑桔和多种经济作物的重要基地，经过开发，现已发展成为旅游娱乐休闲、游泳、垂钓、避暑的胜地。
洲上原有文峰宝塔和文峰书院。登塔纵观湘江景色，逆流南向，静影沉碧，让人心旷神怡，洲名因此而得。可惜这两座古建筑在1938年已被日本飞机炸毁。
每年夏秋季，您若携伴而至，仿佛走进了另一个天地，这里没有城市喧嚣，是最得意的世外桃源。黄昏时，站立洲上，极目湘江，贾舶帆悬，鸥浴平沙，夕阳斜辉，染得满江龙鳞波光。好似置身于原龙之上，若飞若腾，逍遥如仙。故衡山近郊八景中有“观湘夕照”之誉。
