Also called Lion Mountain, Gaoshiling lies at the junction of Zhonggao, Qunli and Gaojiang villages in Songjiang Township, about 1.5 km from the township government. Running north-south at 234.4 meters, it is the highest peak in the Songbai area. Weathered over millennia, its rocks are strangely shaped. Cliffs over 150 meters high flank the summit, with a cave about 2 meters wide and high, said to contain an underground river reaching the Dragon King's palace in the East Sea.

高石岭又名狮子山，位于松江乡境内中高、群力、高江三村交界处，距乡政府约1.5公里。高石岭为南北朝向，海拔234.4米，为松柏地区最高峰。几千年来，经过风化，水洗，山上石头形状怪异，千姿百态。山头两侧为悬崖，高150余米，崖边有一石洞，洞口宽约2米，高约2米，深不可测，传说洞内有一阴河直达东海龙宫。行人在洞中行走或敲击洞壁，均可发出咚咚的声响。洞中有石桌、石凳，传说是龙王同仙人会唔下棋之用。
高石岭婉如一座雄伟的石狮，四周群山环绕，放眼望去，湘江婉如一条蜿蜒曲折的玉带伴山飘过，若大的水口山及衡阳市全景尽收眼底。山上树木成荫，郁郁葱葱，烈日当空，投影在山间小道上也只有斑斑点点。
在峰岭南侧有一个高耸的石柱，一名顶天石又称通天石。在通天石的右下方，有一古墓，传说是宋朝尚书欧阳修之墓地。
