Taipingshan is 8 km from Longshan County seat and has been a Buddhist holy site since ancient times. Taipingshan is majestic and precipitous, with its summit shrouded in clouds and mist year-round. Only a single stone path leads up, with iron chain railings along the way. Three mountain gates are set along the route, and a temple stands at the summit, founded in the sixth year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. At its peak, more than 300 monks resided there permanently. 太平山距龙山县城8公里，自古为佛教圣地。太平山雄奇险峻，其山顶终年云缠雾绕，仅一条石径小路可攀，路旁铁链护栏。沿途设三道山门，山顶建有寺庙一座，始于清道光六年，鼎盛时有300多个和尚常住。传说该寺第五代主持宏松禅师云游京城时，曾为光绪皇帝治愈奇险之疾“背花”，受到封赐奖赏，回太平山后修建了藏经楼、观音阁等，使太平山名扬天下。
二十年代末，我国著名政治活动家章太炎先生曾到太平山一游，对其大加赞赏，欣然命笔：“太平山层峦叠翠，林木葱茏，山峰险秀，殿阁凌云，风景优美，不亚于庐山雁荡”。
1997年，中国佛教协会主席赵朴初先生亲笔题写“太平山”山名，墨宝生辉，佛光又驻。1998年建成了县城至太平山的旅游公路。主要景点有：松月塔、息影洞、观音寺、登天梯等。
