Mengdong River Pinghu Scenic Area lies in the lower reaches of the Mengdong River, from Hou'er Tiao to Longmen Gorge, 45 km long (including a section of the Youshui River). It was formed when the water level rose after the Fengtan Hydropower Station was built downstream on the Youshui. Along the calm lake, cliffs rise sheer, ancient trees tower, caves are densely scattered and grotesque rocks abound, including Longmen Gorge, Guanyin Cave, Bayinshi Gua Cave, Golden Lion Cave, Yuanyang Gorge, Golden Toad Cave, Broken Arm Rock, Sanyue Ding Temple, Small Dragon Cave, Dasheng Gorge, Yinyang Divine Wind Cave, Hou'er Tiao and Fairy Gorge.

猛洞河平湖景区位于猛动河的下游，上起猴儿跳，下至龙门峡，全长45公里（含酉水一段）， 因酉水下游凤滩水电站的建成，库水上涨而形成。平湖两岸，石壁劈立，古木参天，溶洞密布，怪石嶙峋，其中有龙门峡、观音洞、八音石瓜洞、金狮洞、鸳鸯峡、金蟾洞、断臂石、三月鼎寺、小龙洞、大圣峡、阴阳神风洞、猴儿跳、仙女峡、风流岩、老司岩等15个主要景点，素有“小三峡”的美称。两岸山谷中有不少珍禽异兽和珍稀植物，是天然的动植物园。现已列为湖南十大风景区之一。
