With a total length of 8,073.16 meters, including a 1,175.6-meter main bridge 16 meters wide and 6,897.56 meters of approach roads, the bridge cost 210 million yuan. Construction began in March 2001 and it opened on September 28, 2003, ending the need for ferries between the county seat and the west bank.

湘阴湘江大桥全长8073．16米，其中主桥长1175．6米，宽16米，接线总长6897．56米（其中东接线长4364．56米，西接线长2533米），工程总投资2．1亿元，2001年3月动工，2003年9月28日竣工通车。湘阴湘江大桥的建成，结束了湘阴县城与河西隔河渡水的历史，为湖区抗洪抢险提供了安全通道，对提高省道9308线的营运效益、实现县城扩容提质、促进湖区经济发展将发挥重要作用。
