Yaozizhai was anciently called Jiegong Mountain. It lies southeast of the Forest Park, 5 km from Laomowan. Because the top is a long narrow ridge shaped like a kidney, folk and Ming-Qing local gazetteers called it "Yaozizhai" (Kidney Ridge). At 1,050 meters above sea level, about 1,400 meters long and around 100 meters wide, it is a flat viewing platform towering into the clouds, with sheer cliffs over 300 meters on the west, north and east sides, famed for its perilous beauty. 鹞子寨古名竭功山，位于森林公园东南，距老磨塆５公里，因寨顶为一狭长岭脊，形似腰子（肾脏），民间及明清时代的地方志都称为“腰子寨”。
鹞子寨海拔１０５０米，长约１４００多米，宽１００米左右，是一座屹立云天，西、北、东三面绝壁深达３００余米的扁状观景台，以奇险著称。有天桥、层岩涌塔等主要景点。２０００年，“腰子寨”被精心包装，以境内著名景点老鹰嘴，酷似“鹞”之腾飞，于是将“腰子寨”更名为鹞子寨。新辟景点均由中国人民解放军将军命名、题名。景区建设注重环保、健身和民族风情的结合，融生态文化与民俗风情于一体。旅游专家称”鹞子寨是探险、健身、解谜、休闲的理想场所“。
