Zhangjiajie Upper Tianzi Temple

The Upper Tianzi Temple, formally named "Xiangwang Palace," is located at Xiangtian Bay on the east side of Tianzi Mountain, facing south. It was first built in the 22nd year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1389) and expanded during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The temple is of brick, stone, and wood construction with blue tile roofing, covering 150 square meters. It contains three main halls enshrining wooden statues of King Xiang and his consort. The temple gate is a memorial archway-style brick and stone structure, with "Xiangwang Palace" written vertically at the top center, "Blessing the Virtuous" as a horizontal inscription below, and a couplet on either side reading "Eliminating disasters and averting misfortune, everywhere benefiting from King Xiang's grace..."
