Yaozizhai Scenic Area — Weiwu Gate

The Tujia people call it Caomen, a gate shared by Tujia families living in one courtyard. On festive occasions, a gate-blocking ceremony is held here to welcome honored guests. According to Tujia custom, entering the gate requires singing and drinking: if guests win the singing contest, they enter freely; if they lose, they must drink the gate-blocking wine before entering. Drinking gate-blocking wine has become a way of welcoming guests.
