Located on Xinmin Road, Changsha. While studying at First Normal School, Mao Zedong, together with Cai Hesen, He Shuheng, and others, formally founded the Xinmin Society in April 1918 at Cai Hesen's home in Rongwan Town to transform China and the world. It initially had over 20 members, with Mao elected as executive secretary, and grew to over 70 by 1920. The society was the core organization of Hunan's revolutionary struggle at the time and made important contributions to spreading Marxism. Many members later became early CPC members.

在长沙市新民路。毛泽东在第一师范求学期间，为改造中国与世界，于1918年4月与蔡和森、何叔衡等在荣湾镇蔡和森家里正式成立新民学会，当时有会员20余人，毛泽东当选为干事，到1920年发展到70多人，学会是当时湖南革命斗争的核心组织，为宣传马克思主义，作出了重要贡献。后来不少会员成为中国共产党的早期党员。原会址于1938年毁于火，现存建筑为1984年重建。创造按原貌恢复了旧有房屋外，新增设有辅助陈列室，邓小平、陈云分别为旧居题字“蔡和森故居”、“新民学会成立会旧址”额匾和馆名。现旧址已被辟为爱国主义教育基地。1988年公布为省级文物保护单位。
