Located on Zhongshan East Road, Changsha, Hunan, the site was Zeng Guofan's ancestral hall during the Qing Guangxu reign (1875–1908). In 1914, Liu Weilu and others founded the Chuanshan Society here to commemorate Wang Chuanshan and promote his thought. The site is a single-story, three-courtyard compound with brick-and-wood structure, gabled walls, small green tiles, red-lacquered doors and windows, and square brick flooring, appearing very elegant amid the busy city. 船山学社旧址在湖南长沙市中山东路。清光绪年间(1875--1908)为曾国藩的词，1914年刘蔚卢等人为纪念王船山，阐扬其思想，发起组织船山学社于此。旧址单层三进四合院，砖木结构，山字墙，小青瓦，朱漆门窗，方砖地，于闹市之中显得非常雅致。1921年毛泽东，何叔衡等为集合人材，造就干部，利用船山学社的社址和经费，由蔡元培命名创办自修大学，李达为学长，李维汉，夏曦，夏明翰等在这里工作过。1923年11月，自修大学被军阀赵恒惕封闭。1964年后，旧址经多次维修已外开放。
